Welcome to Thornbury Castle
Thornbury Castle is the perfect place for a luxurious retreat, whether for a wedding celebration, family reunion, anniversary, honeymoon, or corporate meeting. Pleasantly situated in Gloucestershire, England, close to Bath, the castle contains 28 luxurious and lavishly decorated bedchambers, which are all elegantly furnished with stunning decor. Most of the bedchambers have four-poster beds and one with an ornately carved ceiling.

Though the castle is now fully modern, many historical details still remain featuring tapestry, armour, and thick stone walls. Historical
Thornbury Castle is a Tudor castle built in 1511 by Edward Stafford, 3rd Duke of Buckingham. In 1521 the Duke was executed for high treason due to high suspicion from King Henry VIII. After this period it was possessed by whoever owned the Crown. Later it became an accommodation for royalty including King Henry VII and his wife, Ann Boleyn in 1535.
Setting
Later in 1554, Thornbury Castle was given to the Duke of Buckingham’s son, Henry Stafford, 1st Baron Stafford, by Queen Mary I. Due to the Civil War in the 1600s, the castle was no longer maintained and fell into ruins until the 19th century when the Howard family made renovations. The castle is now a luxury-styled hotel where you can stay in King Henry VIII’s room.
